Rose

Rose

Name: Rose Sutton

Gender: Female
Ethnicity: English
Age: Apparently a "mature" 16; she can pass as anywhere from 15-25

Occupation: Former servant, ghoul, eventual vampire socialite

Height: 5'0"
Build: Fleshy, voluptuous, strong
Hair: Red, very long, wavy; usually worn loose or in plaits
Eyes: Brown
Skin: Fair, with a ruddy, healthy complexion; freckles on her forehead, nose, cheeks, chin and bosom. Beauty mark on her left cheek underneath her eye. The freckles remain after her Embrace, but they stand out very starkly on her pallid skin.
Tattoos/Piercings: None

Clothing: While living as a servant, her clothing was fittingly plain; as a ghoul, she is indulged and given clothing to wear which would normally be far above her station. She is often dressed in the more outlandish and outrageous styles of whatever time she's in, but wears them with enough confidence that they actually flatter her, rather than looking silly.

Personality: As a servant in the household of a minor lord, Rose was been afforded few freedoms and luxuries, but she took pleasure in them when she could. She would often ply her lord with strong drink and sneak out into London after hours. When her lord hired Cainite painter Gregory to paint a portrait of him, Rose became fast friends with the artist, who was quite taken with her earthy demeanor and red hair, and soon her nightly jaunts brought her to his studio. He has since drawn and painted her several times. After a life-threatening run-in with one of Gregory's more volatile vampire clients, the two have backed off from each other and she became Claris's ghoul, or human servant, and she has completely left her former life and went to live with Leland and Claris. She took to her new life like a fish to water, enjoying her domitor's maternal whims to dress her up and display her. She remained with Claris for nearly two and a half centuries. If Claris had decided to withdraw Rose from the blood she'd been receiving, Rose would have reverted to her true age in moments; however, because she spent no time between domitors, this did not happen to her when she left Claris for Gregory in 1435. Although she adapted surprisingly well to a monastic life, she was denied a certain amount of creature comforts due to their location in a small town, and denied Claris's sole attention, as during this time the vampire took on other ghouls and sought the company of fellow Cainites. After several centuries as Gregory's very happy ghoul and mortal lover, Rose was Embraced by him as a vampire, and the couple became widely renowned throughout London as gracious hosts, society libertines, and patrons of the arts.

Relationships

Domitor/ sire/ husband: Gregory of Colchester
The first Cainite acquaintance of Rose's, though she was unaware he was anything other than human until their condition was explained by Leland and Claris. Rose has a great deal of affection for Gregory, admiring his art as well as being flattered by the attention he lavishes on her. They had one or two fairly intimate encounters, but out of fear for the human girl's safety after her close call with an angry vampire from the flesh-crafting Tzimisce clan, they mutually broke off any thoughts of a more serious relationship at that time. However, they did keep in touch as a result of his close friendship to Claris, and during one of his visits to her at the abbey of the Order of the Holy Chalice, he agreed to take Rose with him back to London. She became his charge, and as his ghoul she was indulged in much the same way that Claris indulged her in the beginning. Their relationship is highly sexual and tender, and back in the city she's able to enjoy the comforts that were scarce and meager during her time in the small village of Abingdon-- not least of which is someone's undivided affection, as opposed to her later years with Claris, when she was one of several.

Former domitor: Claris of Reidona
Blood-bound to Claris, Rose idealized and cared deeply for her vampire mistress. The ease with which she adapted to life as a ghoul was able to put Claris at ease with the idea at the same time, and though Claris once had an exceedingly difficult time enjoying the often overwhelmingly intimate act of feeding, she came to look forward to it with Rose. The two were highly affectionate physically. Their relationship was like close friendship bordering on sisterhood, though Rose was more than willing to submit to Claris's more parental urges as well and was, at least for a time, content to be both friend and doll to her.
When Leland left Claris in the fall of 1317, Rose remained with her mistress and tried to help her through a very dark time. When Claris resettled in the abandoned monastery at Abingdon, Rose went with her. Although Claris's first impulse was not to seek out others, Rose's comings and goings to the village during the day eventually brought people back with her, and the abbey eventually became a sanctuary for world-weary Cainite ladies and their human ghouls. As Claris (now calling herself Sister Saint Clair) took on new ghoul charges and rose to a position of prominence as abbess, Rose began to feel as if she was being cast aside. In 1435, a year after a falling-out with her mistress that left their relationship strained and chilly, she left the Sisters at the abbey to become ghoul to her friend and previous almost-lover, Gregory. Claris felt betrayed and embittered by Rose's abandonment of her, and while she would keep in contact with Gregory, he would often serve as a buffer zone between her and Rose. The two reconciled amiably in 1666 after the departures of Simon and Blancheflor, and remained close friends in the ensuing years.

Former sister ghouls: Blancheflor and Saffron
Because Claris took on Blanche and Saffron after establishing the abbey, lavishing attention on the young Blanche and looking to Saffron to take care of more utilitarian duties, Rose felt taken for granted and redundant after their arrival. Although the three girls ostensibly got along with one another, Rose harbored secret resentment toward Blanche and especially Saffron for "replacing" her in their mistress's affections.
